Losing just 5 percent of your body weight can improve your
health, says the National Institutes of Health. If you weigh 200 pounds, for instance,

The safest approach to losing weight is slow and steady. Aim for half a pound to 2
pounds a week. Choose healthful foods. Watch your portion sizes. And try to get at
